I have to admit that I currently have a quilt obsession.  Not that I collect quilts or that I actually craft quilts myself, but that I love the patterns and fabric combinations.  The combinations!  Oh, the combinations!  They are unlimited, varied and gorgeous!  New and old!  The definition of quilting refers to the technique of joining at least two fabric layers by stitches or ties.  This joining of multiple fabrics is very trendy and showing up every where these days- in home fashion, apparel fashion and was even featured on the Spring 2013 fashion runways in Milan!  That is where the idea for this blog post was born.  I LOVE this dress!!!  What do you think?

You may remember a blog post a couple of months ago about how I use a vintage quilt top in one of my fashion designs for the Dee Dee Style Vintage Team Spirit tee.   Ever since that post I have had a quilt obsession.  I have been scouring Pinterest for lots of fashion ideas, etc.  Check out my Quilt Teasing Me! board on Pinterest!

In addition to that board, I have been researching quilt fashions online and ran across some amazing blog posts and resources regarding quilts in fashion.  Here is what I found.

  1. Lazy Girl Designs  blogged in 2007 about the Spring Quilt Market and included photos of the Bernina exhibits around the show room.  These are some amazing, vibrant works of art in fashion.
         2.  Joel with Rustic Chic blogged about Gloria Vanderbilt and her All American Style.  She is famous for her legendary blue jeans, but she also dabbled in interior design and decorated her master bedroom in a quilt theme.  What grabbed my attention is her quilt coat- FABULOUS!
          3.  Holidays are on my brain too and I ran across this gorgeous tree skirt (which you can see on my Quilt Teasing Me! Pinterest board) and discovered it was available for sale on Etsy.  Gail with QuiltSewPieceful created this amazing piece among many others.
             4.  I recently advertised in and subscribed to FOLK Magazine.  Check it out!  The holiday issue comes out this Friday.  I picked up a back issue from Summer 2012.  There was a book review article on Jennifer Paganelli’s latest book Happy Home.  It has one of the most colorful and bright book covers I have ever seen.  Absolutely stunning and gorgeous all at the same time.  It just makes you smile!  But the kicker is the hexi throw pillows- WOW!!!!!  Jennifer’s company, Sis Boom, creates amazing vintage inspired brightly colored fabrics.  Let me just share a tid bit that you will be seeing some of her works incorporated into the Dee Dee Style Spring 2013 line!!!!!
             5. There is a place for quilters to gather known as the International Quilt Market. It was just held this past weekend (Oct 27-29) inHouston.
            6.  Jenny with a J (a new friend of mine and kindred spirit) was at the International Quilt Market and blogged about her experience.  Her blog is Sew Pretty Dresses. This girl is a dream catcher- she captured a TON of wonderful photos full of inspiration!

Check out all of the amazing talent and hard work that went into this show and hopefully you too will walk away with a dozen new ideas on what to do with that vintage quilt top or scrapes of fabric that you have from your grandmother stored away in the attic.  Remember,  Give something Old, New Life!
